Under the name ‘AmpHytrite’, Pronewable Development and partners are investigating the feasilibity of green hydrogen generation in offshore conditions using electricity from wind turbines. The goal of the AmpHytrite project is to build and operate a green hydrogen offshore wind production unit in stages while also learning the complexity of a centralized offshore and off-grid hydrogen production unit. The project's ultimate goal is to help produce green hydrogen on a large scale and at a reasonable cost at sea, which would boost decarbonization on a larger scale.
The proposed location of the demonstrator is the SIF terminal at the Tweede Maasvlakte. Pronewable Development and Sif are developing two wind turbines that provide green electricity for the demonstrator. The first phase of the project is a grid forming demonstrator.
