Strekdammen project

Pronewable Development and Rebel acquired the ‘Strekdammen’ project from Yard Energy in 2020 and further developed two GE 5.5 MW Cypress wind turbines on the breakwaters of the Port of Eemshaven. Together Pronewable Development and Rebel received the permits, issued turbine tenders and commissioned the turbines in 2022. In total, the two wind turbines have a combined capacity of 11 MW. This is equivalent to the energy consumption of about 15,500 households.

The turbines are specially designed for the salty conditions and wind speeds near the coast. Despite the technical challenges caused by the difficult coastal conditions, the project was completed on schedule and within the given budget. The project was sold after commercial operation date (COD) to ASR. Greenchoice operates as the offtaker of the produced electricity.

"The challenge of this project appeared to be technical. How to build a windproject at the entrance of a sea port in an safe and viable way. We are proud that we succeeded resulting in two landmark turbines at the entrance of the port of Eemshaven."
